Trade In Any Auto Belay*! – We have a trade-in promotion on the TRUBLUE iQ Auto Belay: Upgrade your old model (any brand!) to the new TRUBLUE iQ and get a €450 Trade-In Promotion*!

Building on the legacy of the original TRUBLUE, the iQ series introduces a modernized architecture that is 22% lighter and 23% smaller, yet retains the robust durability required for heavy commercial use. Unlike strictly mechanical systems, the TRUBLUE iQ employs a contactless magnetic braking system (eddy current technology). This ensures that the braking force effectively adjusts to the weight of the climber, providing the same smooth descent for a 10 kg (22 lb) child as it does for a 140 kg (309 lb) adult.

Critically, the TRUBLUE iQ is “future-proof.” It is the base model of the iQ platform, engineered with the capability to be upgraded to iQ+ technology (Catch-and-Hold) down the line, allowing operators to adapt their equipment as their business needs evolve.

Ideal Applications

  • Commercial Climbing Gyms: High-throughput routes where consistency and low downtime are critical.

  • Family Entertainment Centers (FECs): Wide weight range accommodates both small children and adults on the same device.

  • Adventure Parks: Durable enough for semi-outdoor use (with appropriate protection).

  • Clip ‘n Climb Facilities: Standardized safety for fun climbing zones.

Operational Efficiency & Engineering

The TRUBLUE iQ is engineered for Operational Efficiency through its magnetic braking core. Because there are no contacting internal braking parts, thermal degradation is virtually eliminated, allowing for continuous high-cycle use without fading performance. The patented self-regulating system operates independently of power, using the climber’s descent energy to generate the eddy currents that oppose gravity.

The device also features an improved webbing interface. The built-in back bumper and replaceable mount guard protect the unit from wall impacts, while the wider nozzle design minimizes webbing wear during off-vertical descents. For operators, this translates to reduced webbing replacement costs and higher uptime.

Maintenance & Lifecycle

Cost of ownership is minimized through the contactless design.

  • Webbing Replacement: Field-replaceable. Operators can swap webbing onsite without sending the unit in for service, drastically reducing downtime.

  • Service Interval: Annual recertification is required by an authorized service center (first service at 15 months from manufacture, then every 12 months).

  • Durability: The magnetic system does not suffer from the “brake fade” or mechanical wear seen in friction-based competitors, ensuring a longer total asset lifespan.

Trublue iQ Annual Service

To maintain your TRUBLUE iQ warranty and ensure compliance with safety standards, all devices must undergo an annual service. Service is an annual process to make sure that your TRUBLUE iQ is operating properly and any worn parts, like the webbing, are replaced. Servicing your TRUBLUE iQ on time helps to maintain the warranty and maximize performance. Annual service is also mandatory to ensure compliance with safety standards like CE and ANSI.

Expert FAQ

Q: Can the TRUBLUE iQ be used outdoors?

A: Yes, the TRUBLUE iQ is suitable for outdoor use, provided it is protected from direct water ingress. The operating temperature range is -4°C to 60°C. However, prolonged exposure to elements can increase webbing wear and internal corrosion risks, so a protective cover is recommended.

Q: Is the webbing field-replaceable?

A: Yes, the webbing assembly (including the nozzle) is a field-replaceable wear part. Operators can replace worn webbing onsite in minutes, ensuring the lane remains open without shipping the unit away for minor maintenance.

Q: What is the difference between the LT and XL models?

A: The primary difference is the spool capacity and spring tension calibrated for specific heights. The LT is optimized for walls up to 12.5 m (41 ft), while the XL handles taller walls up to 20 m (65.6 ft). You must mount the device within its specified minimum and maximum height range to ensure proper retraction.

Q: Can I upgrade the TRUBLUE iQ to the iQ+ (Catch-and-Hold)?

A: Yes. The TRUBLUE iQ is built on an IoT-ready platform that supports future upgrades. Operators can purchase the iQ now and upgrade to iQ+ functionality later, adding “Catch-and-Hold” capabilities for route projection and training.
