Annual inspections of challenge courses and ropes courses: Any inspection’s primary goal is to help ropes course owners and operators fulfill their risk management obligations. All inspections are designed to assist you in evaluating the risks associated with running your facility and controlling your organization’s exposure to unwarranted risk.
For both indoor and outdoor ropes courses, challenge courses, zip lines, canopy tours, adventure parks, obstacle courses, ninja courses, playgrounds, tree houses, climbing walls, and climbing towers, Thrill Syndicate offers annual ropes course inspection services.
We offer trustworthy, credible, and referenceable information as well as unbiased support that can assist you in maximizing the performance of your ropes course. We have the qualified and friendly personnel to assist you, whether it’s a newly constructed ropes course that needs its debut inspection or an existing course that needs an annual inspection.
The annual inspection includes a physical examination of all installed low and high challenge course parts and components. This comprises, but is not restricted to, a review of the following:
- Trees: If trees were utilized to build your course, we will record the size and species of the trees, look for insect and weather damage, check for dead fall, and consult with certified arborists.
- Utility Poles: If utility poles are utilized in the course construction, they will be examined for the proper classification, size, age, and animal and/or weather-related damage.
- Buildings and Structures: If any buildings or structures were used in the design of your course, we will assess the connections to those structures, keep an eye out for metal fatigue, check for cracked or broken welds, and more.
- Wire Rope: All wire rope used for guy lines, foot lines, zip lines, and belay lines will be examined for proper terminations, drape, tension, flaws, and rusting.
- Ropes: All ropes will be examined to ensure that they are being used, stored, and recorded properly.
- Bolts: If through bolts were utilized in the construction of your course, each bolt will be examined for signs of wear, rust, and tree growth.
- Lumber: will be examined for rust and projecting nails and screws. Additionally, the right connection method will be checked on all lumber used for structural components like platforms.
- Programming Equipment: To make sure that the correct retirement timelines are followed, all programming equipment will be examined for age, wear, and storage.
- Training manuals and policies: We will examine any manuals pertaining to high and low ropes course maintenance, use, facilitation, training, and record keeping.
A written report will typically be mailed within 10 days of the inspection, and a verbal report will be given upon completion of the inspection before leaving the site. One of three results will be used in the oral report and one in the written report to address each challenge course component.
The challenge course structures, systems, and components that are easily accessible to the inspector are the only ones that may be visually and physically inspected as part of the inspection service described above. The inspection will be carried out in compliance with the applying norms (NEN EN 15567). The inspection’s focus is restricted to the things that were observed and assessed on the inspection day and are included in the inspection report. It is beyond the scope of an inspection or the associated report to attest to any future usability or condition of an entire course, system, or component(s) that may be subject to environmental damage, normal wear and tear, abnormal or unauthorized use, intentional or unintentional modification by others, or are simply inaccessible to the inspector without altering the course. The inspection and report are only a snapshot of the course as it was seen during a specific moment in time. The inspector is a challenge course generalist; he or she is not representing themselves as a professional engineer or as an authority on any particular craft or trade. The cost of any maintenance, repairs, replacements, or testing must be borne by the Client if the inspector advises the Client to consult with specialists (such as an arborist, engineer, etc.) or execute such work.
Supplemental Services
In addition to general inspection services, we are able to offer testing and maintenance services, arrange for any additional experts to be present during your inspection for a fee, and give advance notification of these requirements. Please read more about these services if your company is interested in them or needs them.
Cleaning Services
A challenge course must occasionally undergo modest repairs to remain passable. If minor repairs are required at the time of inspection, Thrill Syndicate can offer them if the client so desires. By planning this ahead of time, you can save time and energy and potentially determine whether an element is useable for your program between the time that an inspection is completed and repairs can be made. Due to time, labor, and material constraints, substantial repairs unfortunately cannot usually be addressed during inspections unless they have been planned, scheduled, and contracted for beforehand.
Common little repairs could be:
- adding staples or steps to make things easier to access for inspection.
- fixing or loosening tense backup cables on tree courses
- changing tangled cables
- Replacement of missing serving sleeves Retrofitting a backup system
- replacing rusty cable clamps, rapid links, or belay cables
- adding any missing cable clamps or fixing any clamps that were put in the wrong way
- tensioning tension cables or guy lines
- tensioning the zip lines
Regular Major Repairs Involve:
- changing the belay cables
- changing the zip line cables
- putting up utility poles
- switching out platforms
- Guy anchor replacement or installation
- Adding a new component
